If you are like me, I need coffee in the morning before I can function or really begin to do anything. Big Shoulders Coffee is a great local coffee shop located in River West. They have fresh roasted coffee drinks, whole beans for purchase and pastries to enjoy with your caffeinated beverage. If you purchase a bag of coffee beans they offer you a free drink and they offer to grind the coffee beans.
The last time I was at Big Shoulders, I already had too much caffeine for the day and I declined the free beverage. The friendly barista instead gave me a coupon for one free beverage then next time I am in the coffee shop. Another great feature about this coffee shop is that it’s a commuter friendly. You can get a cup of coffee inside Big Shoulders while keeping track of the next train or bus which are both tracked on tv monitors within the cafe. This is a great feature to keep in mind when the weather is too hot to wait at the bus stop or too cold in the winter.

Where is River West?
Neighborhood NewsWhere exactly is River West located? It’s a neighborhood that is located just west of River North, North of the West Loop, east of Wicker Park and the Ukrainian Village. The dividing lines for the neighborhood is Division Street to the north, I-90 to the west, Ohio Street to the south and the Chicago River to the east. 
This neighborhood at one time was more of an industrial area of the city which now many of those warehouses have since been converted into unique loft and condo buildings. There are also many townhomes, low rise condo buildings along with a few mid-rise buildings that have been springing up in River West. This public transportation friendly neighborhood is ideal for downtown workers and for those who work in the West Loop due to the walk-ability to the West Loop. The hipster highway, also known as Milwaukee Avenue, runs through the neighborhood which many bike commuters use every day to get to their office. The Chicago blue line, Milwaukee Bus and the Chicago Avenue Bus are all located in River West which makes getting around town easy.
